This invention is a device in the form of a console having a top 103 supported by two crosspieces 102 having a straight edge 106A, the edge opposite 106 being in the form of a V. This V consists of a flat metal part 106 of approximately 10 x 60 on which is bonded a rubber 106c which will reinforce the nonskid action. This form is intended to be applied against a cylindrical object or against a wall angle, thereby preventing any risk of skidding. Its top plate 103 thus offers the possibility of placing tools and serves as a shelf. By virtue of a system of braces 111 and 112 it will be possible for this shelf to be adjusted according to the inclination given to the ladder element relative to its support (post or wall angle). <IMAGE>
