A mechanism comprises a screw 1 on which are mounted two nuts 4 each with an independent ball recirculating passage and set of load transferring balls 3, and having at its outward end an external flange 9, the two nuts 4 being encircled by a sleeve 5 of smaller bore than the overall diameter of the flanges which fit into recesses 6 in the sleeve, the sleeves and nuts being adjustably fixed against relative rotation by removable devices (e.g. discs 11 with radial ribs 13 engaging slots 14 in the nuts and sleeve). Relative adjustment of the nuts 4 in the sleeve 5 to take up backlash may be effected either by interchangeable spacers 10, or by one disc 11 comprising outer and inner rings 16, 18 with ribs 13 engaging the sleeve and nut, and having teeth 17, 19 engaging an intermediate ring to thereby give a vernier adjustment. |
