PURPOSE:To obtain the single crystal optical fiber which is capable of generating nonlinear optical effects by using a crystal added with light emittable elements as a core material and the same kind of the crystal which is not added with said elements as a clad material. CONSTITUTION:The core part 22 is formed by adding the light emittable elements Nd, Ti, etc., to YAG, Al2O3, etc., and the clad part 21 consists of the same material as the material of the core part but does not contain the light emittable elements. After a base material 22 for the core contg. the light emittable elements is sealed into a base material 21 for the clad, the single crystal optical fiber 24 is formed from the molten part of the fiber base material by using a seed crystal 23. The oscillation output of a laser is thus obtd. with the incidence of the extremely low excitation light by utilizing the increase in the refractive index generated by addition of the light emittable elements to the optical crystal. The single crystal optical fiber which can generate the various nonlinear optical effects such as laser oscillation, higher harmonic generation and optical parameteric is thereby obtd. |
