In a method for the manufacture of opening briefs 1 for the fixing of nappy products the briefs are manufactured by knitting with a largely rectangular bag shape. In order to be able to manufacture such opening briefs by machine in endless webs and with a minimum of finishing, the briefs are manufactured from superimposed or juxtaposed fabrics 10, 11, each of which has an edge area 12 for the formation of a band 12' and an edge area 13 for forming a crotch area 5. The fabric is joined at one edge area with separate section 14 and is fully or partially cut in the transverse direction along clipping strips 15, 16 which are formed at predetermined positions, so that separate brief retainers 1a are produced. In the folded-out position the brief retainers are largely T-shaped. These brief retainers are provided, before or after the webs are cut up, with releasable connecting elements 9a, 9b at least at the corners of the vertical branch of the T and especially along the edges thereof. In order to prevent the briefs being pulled awry, when they are used, the edge areas abutting the cuts are provided with reinforcing edge tape 24, 25. <IMAGE>
