摘要 Shaft (10) of roller (12) is supported in a bearing (18) in base plate (14) and has a bearing housing (16). The roller (12) is directly driven by a hydraulic motor (20) and a reduction gear box (22), which are connected to the outer flange of the housing (16) and have the same axis (L). The splined transmission shaft (28) transmits the driving torque to the roller (12) and engages in splines in the recesses (30,32) in the roller shaft (10) and the reduction gear box (22). The drive motor (20) is coordinated with other roller drives in the mill train and is supplied with hydraulic pressure from a common source. ADVANTAGE - The provision of separate direct drives for each roller means that the speed of each roller can be individually adjusted and variations in roller diameters can therefore be easily accommodated. The failure of one drive motor will normally not require the rolling process to be interrupted. The drive can be constructed from normally available elements which are easily interchanged, and the effect on the drive of deflections of the roller shaft during rolling is reduced.
