PURPOSE:To prevent the increase in connection loss by using a soft material such as rubber to constitute the side of a protective mechanism at the end face of an optical fiber provided to a ferrule where the mechanism comes into contact with the end face of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The side of the protective mechanism 4 at the end face of the optical fiber 1 provided to the ferrule 5, where the mechanism comes into contact with the end face of the optical fiber 1, is constituted of the soft material 6 such as rubber. The protective mechanism 4 opens gradually as the fitting progresses at the time of fitting of the optical connector. The soft material 6 is then lapped and fitted to the end face 8 of the optical fiber. The protective mechanism 4 ends opening and the dust sticking to the end face 8 of the optical fiber is removed by the soft material 6 upon ending of the fitting. The connector is thus connected in the state of having no dust on the end face 8 of the optical fiber. The increase in the connection loss by the flaws and dust sticking to the end face 8 of the optical fiber is thereby prevented. |
