The invention provides a means of movement for walking and skiing in snow, and optionally also for emergency use in deep snow, which permits problem-free walking and sliding in all snow conditions, especially in deep snow - even on ascents and descents - and is suitable at the same time for mountain descents and for forward movement on flat terrain (by using runners to generate propulsion). The apparatus, equipped with a large bearing surface, possesses adjustable runners which - in contrast to articulated flaps -engage immediately, utilise a large transverse surface and permit infinitely variable adjustment of sliding resistances for downhill sliding, all this combined with a structurally simple model. The runners permit forward movement in the skating step, sliding on deep snow being more easily possible than when cross-country skis are used, because of the large surface. In addition, there are in this case no long ski ends to cause an obstruction when the skating step is performed. Thus the subject of this invention is ideally suited for walking and cross-country skiing in virtually all conditions of snow and terrain.
