In the signal path (1) for transmitting the frequency-modulated video signals of a video recorder, an equalizer circuit (9) for equalizing transmitted luminance steps is arranged which contains a filter circuit element (10) located in the signal path (1) which is followed by a coupling element (11) and a diode switch (20) which is connected in parallel with the signal output (19) of the filter circuit element. In the case of low transmitted oscillation amplitudes, the diode switch is blocked so that the filter circuit element and the coupling element form a band-pass filter (12) which is tuned to the transmitted oscillations and which stabilizes and equalizes the transmitted oscillations. In the case of large-amplitude signals, the diode switch, together with the filter circuit element, forms a voltage-dependent transit-time shift which steepens again the luminance steps which were flattened during the transmission. <IMAGE>
