The gearing disclosed comprises a first gearing element (40) having an axially oscillating first closed cam (41) which moves about the axis of the gearing element, a second gearing element (42) coaxial with the first gearing element (40) and provided with an axial groove (43), a third gearing element (44) coaxial with the first and second gearing elements (40, 42) and having a second closed cam (45) which moves about the axis, and an engaging body (46) which oscillates in the axial groove (43) and which engages in the two cams (41, 45). The two cams (41, 45) are so shaped and the axially reciprocating engaging body (46) is so constructed that the oscillating motion of the latter can be varied in order to control the torque transmitted by the gearing. In another embodiment, the torque ratio or speed ratio can be varied, a further gearing element can be driven, or automatic interlocking can be achieved.
