Magnetic members, so-called armatures (1), are attracted by a permanent magnet (3) while deflecting resilient members (9,10) are connected to one end. The members are associated with corresponding electromagnets which are energised selectively to release the associated magnetic members by cancelling the magnetic attracting force of the permanent magnet, so that the magnetic member is actuated by the energy stored in the corresponding resilient members to drive the printing element. One end of the magnetic member contacts a yoke (I) mounted on the magnet so as to form a fulcrum for the rotation of the member.
