In network line carrier transmission and reception for the purposes of remote control, a slave receiver counts carrier cycles in a time window near to a zero passage of a supply line. The receiver uses discrete components (1, 2, 3) and a microprocessor. The discrete components form an input filter (1), a limiting pre-amplifier (2), a demodulator and noise filter (3) and devices to determine the zero passage points (4). A capacitor is charged and discharged, depending on the rate of occurrence of carrier cycles, in order to generate a binary signal which is dependent on the digital value present on the carrier. By measuring the time span in which the binary signal is located in the window in one of its states, the microprocessor determines whether the signal is the result of noise or not.
