PURPOSE:To ensure a highly accurate detecting function and aim at miniaturizing a detector for a magnetic bearing by forming a tapered peripheral surface on the outer peripheral surface of a detecting ring, and by forming a detecting inner surface of the detector from a tapered peripheral surface facing the above- mentioned tapered peripheral surface. CONSTITUTION:Tapered peripheral surfaces inclined to a rotary shaft 1 are formed on detecting outer peripheral surfaces 21a, 22a of detecting rings 21, 22. Tapered peripheral surfaces facing the detecting outer surface of the detecting ring 21 are formed on detecting inner peripheral surfaces 23a, 24a of both detectors 23, 24. The distances between the detecting ring 21 and the detectors 23, 24 and between the detecting ring 22 and detectors 25, 26 vary in accordance with displacements due to translational motion in the radial axis direction, rotation about the radial center and translational motion in the rotary shaft direction, these displacements are detected by the two detecting rings 21, 22 and two sets of detectors 23 through 26. Thus, it is possible to ensure a highly accurate detecting capability and to aim at miniaturizing the device.
