1,235,379. Extraction of, and pharmaceutical compositions containing, anthocyanins. STE DE RECHERCHES INDUST-RIELLES. 27 May, 1968 [30 May, 1967; 16 Aug., 1967], No. 25300/68. Heading A5B. Anthocyanins are extracted from blackcurrants, bilberries, elderberries and/or cherries by pressing and depectinising the fruit(s), separating the juice obtained from the solid residues, macerating the solid residues at least once in water, methanol, ethanol and/or butanol for from 4 to 24 hours, separating the residues and the liquid, adding the liquid to the juice and recovering the anthocyanins from the mixture of liquid and juice by filtering the mixture and then concentrating the filtered liquid. The liquid and juice may be pre-concentrated under a partial vacuum and pre-concentrated material so obtained may be completely dried under vacuum in the presence of an absorbent inert powder such as cellulose, talc, kaolin, kieselguhr, silica and/or calcium phosphate. The macerating solvent(s) may be acidified and the solvent vapours may be recovered and recycled. The pre-concentrated liquid and juice may be purified by means of ion exchange resins, chromatography or by the foramtion of a neutralized aluminium oxide-anthocyanins complex which is then eluted in an acid medium. Pharmaceutical compositions having effects on capillary permeability and resistance and on circulatory dynamics and vitamin P activity comprise the extracted anthocyanins and a carrier. The compositions may be administered orally, parenterally, topically or rectally in conventional pharmaceutical forms.
|
