Trifluoromethyl ethers of the formula wherein R is a methyl or ethyl group, are prepared by reacting sulphonic or sulphuric acid esters of the formulµ respectively, with alkali-metal fluorides and carbonyl fluoride at 20‹ to 120‹ C., R<SP>1</SP> being a C 1-4 alkyl or an aryl radical. The compounds may be chlorinated to give trifluoromethyl chloromethyl or chloroethyl ethers, the second of which may be dehydrochlorinated to give trifluoromethyl vinyl ether.</p> |
