In order to prevent the loss of broken-off tine portions, an agricultural machine provided with tines (8, 9) comprises a protection element (14; 14A, 14B; 20A, 20B; 28) which is attached to a tine, is threaded through a plurality of windings (10, 11, 26) contiguous to the active tine portion, and is attached to a carrier member (1) associated with the tine. The protection element may be extended along the rear side of a tine so as to prevent the loss of short tine portions.
