PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain urethane and ester carbonate using an inexpensive catalyst having high activity without using phosgene, by reacting a primary amine with a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound, carbon monoxide and molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst mainly containing copper. CONSTITUTION:A primary amine (e.g., aniline) is reacted with a hydroxyl group- containing organic compound (e.g., methanol), carbon monoxide and molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst system (e.g., copper iodide) containing copper and halogen as active ingredients using an oxygen-containing organic sulfur compound (e.g., sulfolane) of >=1mol based on 1mol amino group of primary amine at 50-300 deg.C under pressure of 1-500kg/cm<2>G to provide the aimed product. Urethanes are useful as raw materials for carbamate based agricultural chemicals and synthetic intermediate for isocyanate and ester carbamates are useful as raw materials for producing polycarbonate and esterifying agent, solvent, etc. |
