PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic (poly)ether-ketone or -sulfone, by reacting a functional group-containing aromatic halogen compound with sodium (hydrogen)carbonate in the presence of a catalyst silica, an alkali metal fluoride and copper under heating. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula I (Y is ketone or sulfone; Ar is phenylene or nucleus-substituted substance thereof; X is halogen) is reacted with sodium (hydrogen)carbonate in the presence of a catalyst selected from silica, alumina and titania, an alkali metal fluoride (preferably KF) and copper (compound) at 150-400 deg.C to give an ether shown by formula II. In the above- mentioned method, since an unstable phenol is not used, amounts of by-products are small, only one raw material is required so the raw material is readily secured. When Na2CO3 is used as an ether oxygen source, water is not prepared as a byproduct. The aimed substance is useful as a high-performance engineering resin material, sensitizer, raw material for drugs and agricultural chemicals, etc. |
