PURPOSE:To strongly and stably clamp the bare parts of optical fibers and to connect the same without deflecting the parts by moving an upper clamping part having an elastic body which comes into contact with the bare parts so as to hold down the same from above together with clamping means of the covered parts at the time of fusion connection of the fibers. CONSTITUTION:The clamping means 14, 16 which clamp the bare parts 10b, 10'b of the optical fibers 10, 10' include the upper clamping member 26 having the elastic body which come into contact with the bare parts so as to hold down the same from above. This upper clamping member is so constituted as to move together with the clamping means 14, 16 for the covered parts at the time of the fusion connection of the optical fibers. The clamping force of the bare parts is, therefore, strongly stabilized and in addition, even if the outside diameter of the bare parts of the optical fibers fluctuates, such fluctuation is absorbed by the elastic body. The upper clamping member moves together with the clamping means for the covered part, thereby moving the bare parts together with the upper clamping member at the time of the fusion connection of the optical fibers. The optical fibers are thus connected with good accuracy without generating deflection between both the clamping means. |
