PURPOSE:To improve the film strength during and after development processings, without depressing the development processing characteristics of the photographic material by mounting the outer-most layer contg. a water soluble collagen as a main component on the photographic material. CONSTITUTION:The layer contg. the water soluble collagen as the main component is mounted on the outer-most layer of a silver halide emulsion layer or the outer-most layer of the rear of a supporting body, namely, the back layer thereof. The water-soluble collagen is preferably a collagen contg. a molecular kind of socalled I type which mainly contains gamma-chain or a high mol.wt. aggregate, but may be a neutral salt-soluble collagen, namely an I type collagen mainly contg. alpha or beta chain as the main component. As the collagen solubilized by the action of a II, III or IV type enzyme has a low gelling ability, the neutral salt soluble collagen is preferably used together with the I type collagen. The water soluble collagen used may be used together with an another polymer binder, however, if a large amount of the another polymer is jointly used with the water soluble collagen, the inherent performance of the collagen is lost. The film strength of the sensitive material without depressing the max. optical density of the sensitive material is improved by incorporating the water soluble collagen in the outer-most layer of the sensitive material as a protective layer. |
