PURPOSE: To make a steady speed of relative motion between a scanning array and an image by interposing a current integral period and starting a next integral period unless an integration start signal synchronizes with integration pulses in response to the integration response signal generated at a request of an image line signal. CONSTITUTION: When the remaining capacity of a buffer 50 has a predetermined increase, a buffer capacity sensor 51 requests an image line signal (NEXTLINE) from a controller 53. At the request, the controller 53 adjusts the scanning speed of a scanning carriage 26. After the scanning carriage 26 moves by a distance equal to one image line, a carriage position sensor 58 outputs an integration signal (INT) to the controller 53 to instruct the scanning array 35 to start scanning a next image line (N). A clock 45 resets the timing of a shift pulseΦSH to a current shift pulseΦSH to synchronize the shift pulse with the integration signal (INT). Consequently, an integration period needed to integrate an image line (N) put in the visual field of the scanning array 35.
