PURPOSE:To obtain a sealing agent for a light-emitting element or photodetector, whose weatherproofness, resistance to chemicals, hardness and optical characteristics are excellent, whose hardening time is short and whose mold-releasing property is excellent by a method wherein a monomer or an oligomer containing a bisaryl-based compound as an essential component or their mixtures are contained. CONSTITUTION:In a light-emitting or photodetecting device 1, a light-emitting element or photodetector 4 such as a diode 4 or the like is sealed by using a specific polymer 3. A sealing agent is a liquid substance which contains a monomer or an oligomer containing a bisaryl-based compound as an essential component or a mixture of these and which can be polymerized. An amount to be used of a polymerization-initiating agent used to polymerize the sealing agent is preferably 1-6wt.% with reference to the sealing agent. For this polymerization, the surface of the sealing agent 13 inside a mold is covered with a liquid substance 8 whose solubility with reference to the sealing agent 13 is small and whose density is smaller than that of the sealing agent 13. When liquid polyolefine or the like is used for the liquid substance 8, the liquid substance itself displays a mold-releasing effect; accordingly, a mold-releasing operation can be executed extremely easily. |
