[Also in Division F2] A tool for inserting studs or screwed inserts 10, Fig. 1, comprises a driving member 24, 25, and a driven member 20. The parts 20, 24 have interengaging tongues 30, 32, which provide a lost-motion drive. Part 25 is releasablv attached to part 24 by a pin 38, which is located in a bore 40 in part 24, and is adapted to be located in a selected bore 42, or 44 in part 25. Part 20 has a plain end 45 which enters a bore in insert 10 and prevents a plastics locking member 16 in the insert from moving inwardly when the insert is being screwed into a workpiece. A screw-thread 28 on driven member 20 engages a similar screw-thread in part 25, and in the insert, with fewer convolutions in the insert than in part 25, so as to provide a less resistance to rotation between member 20 and the insert, than that between the member 20 and part 25. The tongues 30, 32 may be shaped as in any of the Figs. 5, 7, 8 (not shown). In a modification, driven member 20a, Fig. 12, has two screwthreads 50, 52 of different pitch, and a leaf spring 55 provides the desired frictional resistance to rotation between driver part 18a and driven part 20a. In a further modification, the tool for installing a stud 70, Fig. 16, comprises a driver 75, 78, the screw-thread 82, of the driver engaging the screwed bore of a driven member 85, and the latter engaging the screwthread of the stud. The tongues are provided between sleeves 78 and 85. |
