[Also in Division H1] In a converter with a large number of semiconductor controlled rectifiers in series the rectifiers are arranged in groups 64, 66, 68 of up to thirty rectifiers such as 60. To fire all the rectifiers simultaneously a transformer arrangement (see Division H1) is used having a single straight conductor for its primary, and a toroidal core 70, 72, 74 for each group. Each core has a secondary winding for each rectifier of its associated group. To fire the thyristor the capacitor 100 is discharged through the primary conductor by firing auxiliary thyristor 102. After a time delay (to ensure that thyristor 102 will have turned off), while capacitor 118 charges through resistors 114, 116, the breakdown device 120 fires another thyristor 112 through which the capacitor 100 is recharged. |
