The invention relates to a water treatment device, in particular for water installations in small properties, for removal of iron and prolonging the life of the water pipes. The device is an open basin installation and the water is controlled via a pump and valve arrangement 6 with time division. The water treatment process is aeration-rapid filtration, using natural sand or the like as filter material. A typical feature of the mass basket 1 is that the basket is separate and placed in the part of the filtration basin where the water surface moves up and down. In each individual case the mass above the water surface is improved by aeration. The best treatment result is sought from case to case by controlling the limit values of the movement of the water surface up and down. <IMAGE>
