The invention relates to a device making it possible to lay down, and to store heat energy by means of latent heat of fusion of a body 2 and to restore it with the aid of exchangers 4. The heat energy may be laid down by the tubes 10 and taken up again by the tubes 11. It may also be laid down by the electrical heating element 9 bringing to boiling point the inert water 8 which releases its heat energy to the paraffin 2. In this case, the tubes 10 and 11 take up again the heat energy laid down. For equal bulk, the latent heat of fusion of paraffin at 55 DEG can store and restore 220 for every 100 of that which water can store and restore. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for heating domestic hot water or central heating water using electricity at "off-peak" rate, it is also intended to store heat energy between 50 and 55 DEG wherever there is a lack of space. <IMAGE>
