PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject compound in high yield and purity, by subjecting a beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acid ester to aminolysis with a cyclic amine and eliminating the alcohol under mild condition with a basic catalyst to regenerate the double bond. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III useful as a monomer for the production of a high-molecular weight polymer for water-absorbent, separation membrane, rein modifier, etc., can be produced by reacting a beta- alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acid ester of formula I (R1 is H or CH3; R2 and R3 are 1-3C alkyl) such as beta-methoxypropionic acid methyl ester with a cyclic amine of formula II (Y is methylene, O or N-methylamino; m+n=3-5) such as pyrrolidine to obtain a beta-alkoxy-substituted carboxylic acid amide and eliminating and distilling out the by-produced alcohol at 50-170 deg.C under a pressure of 50-760mmHg using a basic catalyst such as CH3ONa preferably in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor such as cupferron thereby forming an unsaturated bond. |
