摘要 Manganese or silicon carbide is formed in a solid state reaction by mixing manganese or silicon oxide particles with carbonaceous material (e.g., coke) particles. The materials may be formed into agglomerates including excess carbonaceous material and heated in a suitable reactor vessel. An iron source, such as pig iron and/or iron scrap, can also be added. In that case, the manganese or silicon carbide dissolves in molten iron to produce ferrosilicon or ferromanganese alloys.
