PURPOSE:To reduce the number of the divisions of a modulator electrode by using an electrode group, constituted by horizontally arranging a plural number of vertical electrodes each having 2n horizontal openings, and n sets of electrode groups each constituted by horizontally arranging electrodes each having n horizontal openings. CONSTITUTION:Vertical stripe-like electrodes 41a, 42b... each having four horizontal openigings are horizontally arranged apart from each other to make a first electrode group 41. Vertical stripe-like electrodes each having two openings with the same size are horizontally arranged and alternately connected to common bus-bars 42a and 42b (43a and 43b) to make a second electrode group 42 (a third electrode group 43). The second and the third electrode groups 42 and 43 are installed apart from each other in the traveling direction of beams. They are displaced from each other by 1/2 pitch. R, G and B color phosphor stripes 45 are formed facing the openings of the electrode groups 41-43. As a result, the number of the divisions of a modulator electrode can be reduced without deteriorating the resolution. |
