The ruler has two photo-couplers (5,5a) detecting rotation angle. The pulses provided from sensors (5,5a) are touched by the correcting waveform circuits (W4, W2) and by the double frequency circuit (7). The output pulses of the frequency converter (7) are magnified by the amplifiers (Q11 Q2) so that the discriminating direction circuit (8) can drive the Up/Down counter (9) indicating the rotation angle. The measured distance is displayed on the visual display device of 7- segment LED.
