In this circuit arrangement, the setting of colour saturation is made dependent on the luminance signal by means of the saturation control stage (ss) in which the amplitude of its output signal depends on the amplitude of the luminance signal (y) in accordance with a predeterminable function, and by means of the amplifier (v), to the input of which the chrominance signals (r, b) are supplied and the gain of which is controlled by the output signal of the saturation control stage (ss) in such a manner that in the case of dark signals, the colour saturation is reduced compared with bright signals. This reduces the subjective impression of the colour noise which becomes particularly disturbingly noticeable on the screen when dark picture contents are reproduced. <IMAGE>
