A safety belt device for vehicles is described by means of which a belt is fixedly mounted on the frame and in the case of which a belt fitting follows a movement of the seat in a flexible fashion, as a fitting part is fixed to the frame and a tube is fixed to the seat and the fitting part which is fixed to the frame is longitudinally displaceable in the tube which is fixed to the seat, and in the case of which a rod is mounted so as to be longitudinally displaceable in the tube which is fixed to the seat, the said rod being connected to the belt and it being possible for the said rod to be locked to the fitting part which is fixed to the frame by means of a tensile force which is initiated against the resistance of a restoring spring, as the fitting part which is fixed to the frame is tubular and encloses the tube which is fixed to the seat in a telescopic fashion, and the rod can be moved together with the tube which is fixed to the seat, through which tube it passes completely, the rod having at its end pointing towards the frame a cone, on which there are positively mounted a plurality of wedge-shaped braking segments which are supported at one end face by an end face of the tube which is fixed to the seat, it being possible to press the said braking segments through the cone towards an inside wall of the fitting part which is fixed to the frame.
