A device for clamping a linearly movable elongated component, especially the piston rod (10) of a piston-cylinder arrangement, is clamped by means of a clamping body extending transverse to the longitudinal axis of the piston rod (10), two clamping arms (16, 17), which grasp the piston rod (10), being formed on the clamping body as a result of a slit (15). The clamping arms have a frustoconical external shape. The device further has a locking body which overlaps the clamping arms (16, 17) by means of a likewise frustoconical recess (23). The device has a compression spring (22) which presses the locking body (18) permanently over the clamping arms. The force of the spring (22) can be overcome by means of pressure fluid, so that the piston rod (10) can move freely under pressure. On a decrease in the pressure the force of the spring overcomes the pressure force and thus effects a clamping. <IMAGE>
