A 2,6-substd. pyridine deriv. of formula (I) having a broad activity as a herbicide is prepared. In (I) n is 0-2; X is halogen, OH, lower alkoxy, lower alkenoxy, lower alkynoxy, haloalkoxy, haloalkenoxy or alkylthio; R1 and R2 are each fluorinated methyl or chlorofluorinated methyl, provided that one of them is fluorinated methyl; R4 is H, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl laryl, substd. aryl, aralkyl cyano, amino or alkyl amino; R3 is OH, alkoxy, alkyl thio, alkylsulfonyl, lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; when n is 0 or 2, R4 is not aryl; when R3 is methyl and R4 is methyl, ethyl or tbutyl, n is not 1 or 2.
