Videophone (10) with a housing (11) in which a video camera (14) is accommodated in such a way that its aperture faces the front. The camera is attached to a rotatable bracket (52) which is pivoted by pressing a button (54) outside the housing, whereby the angle of inclination or the angle of elevation of the camera aperture can be adjusted accordingly. The camera has a lens (22) and a solid-state image sensor (24) which converts a light image from the lens into an electric signal (video signal) and is mounted on a printed circuit board (58). The solid-state image sensor responds at least to infrared light. An infrared LED (50) is mounted on the same or on a different printed circuit board (88). The infrared LED will light up at the required time in order to illuminate a person or an object in front of the camera aperture. <IMAGE>
