A description is given of an arrangement for driving at least one overhead camshaft (12) from a crankshaft (4) of an internal combustion engine, in particular an in-line internal combustion engine (2) held transversely in the front end of a motor vehicle, the arrangement having an auxiliary shaft (8) which is arranged offset in parallel and to the side of the crankshaft and is drivable by the latter by way of a first drive (5-7). In order to make the best possible use of the axial installation space available in the region of the longitudinal plane (18) of the cylinders, the auxiliary shaft (8) is to be connected to the camshaft (11) by way of a second drive (9-11). The first drive (5-7) can be designed to drive the auxiliary shaft (8) at half the speed of the crankshaft (4) and can be arranged as a chain drive within the casing of the internal combustion engine (2). <IMAGE>
