A centerless grinder for manufacturing ceramic balls has a cylindrical cutting grindstone (7) forming grooves (7a) on its cutting surface, a cylindrical adjusting grindstone (8) disposed parallel to the cutting grindstone, and blade (a) disposed between the grindstones (7,8). A round ceramic bar (10) is fed into the centering cylinder while the grindstones (7,8) are rotated in the feed direction so that the grooves (7a) grind the bar (10). The ceramic balls have a good sphericity and dimensional accuracy, and an excellent abrasion resistance and mechanical strength.
