PURPOSE:To provide the subject reformer so designed that combustion catalyst beds for heating, separated into two tiers are installed in the axial direction of hydrocarbon reforming catalyst-packed reaction tubes, and the front stream of the second catalyst bed is fitted with a gas mixer consisting of ceramic honeycomb of specific structure, thereby miniaturizing the unit and effecting uniform heating. CONSTITUTION:Combustion catalyst beds, separated into two tiers 11 and 14, are installed in the axial direction of plural reaction tubes 3 packed with a hydrocarbon-reforming catalyst, and are to heat said reaction tubes 3. A gas mixing section 12 consisting of ceramic honeycomb structure 22, having one or more fuel gas feed sections 17, where a flow of a fuel gas 20 and another flow of an oxygen-contg. combustion gas 21 discharged from the first catalyst bed 11 are rectangularly mixed with each other is installed on the front stream of the second catalyst bed 14 to homogeneously mix the fuel gas 20 with the combustion gas 21 to uniformly burn in the second catalyst bed 14, thus uniformly heating the reaction tubes 16. |
