<p>The invention relates to the preparation of N-vinyl lactams having formula (I), wherein n is an integer having a value of from 1 to 3 in a one-stage, non-aqueous process which comprises reacting a lactam having formula (II) with acetylene under an acetylene partial pressure of from about 25 to about 125 psig. in the presence of an inert gas diluent and a catalyst having formula (III), wherein R1, R2 and R3 are all lower alkyl or aryl or one of R1, R2 and R3 can also be hydrogen and M is a metal selected from the group of cesium, potassium, sodium and lithium.</p> |
