PURPOSE:To continuously conduct nickel plating on a cadmium electrode having large gas absorbency by connecting a conductive plate which contains no cadmium and no soluble impurities to a cadmium oxide electrode which is somewhat plated, and conducting nickel plating. CONSTITUTION:A belt-shaped conductive plate containing no cadmium and no soluble impurities is connected to a belt-shaped electrode mainly comprising cadmium oxide, and they are immersed in a nickel plating bath, then electroplating is continuously conducted to form a porous nickel layer on the surface of the cadmium oxide electrode. After nickel plating is finished, the conductive plate is separated from the electrode to remove the deposite on the surface, then connected again to the electrode, and electroplating is continuously conducted, and this process is repeated. A cadmium electrode having excellent gas absorbency is continuously obtained. |
