<p>A friction disk assembly includes a driven annular member (10) having a plurality of radially extending torque transmitting support segments (12) circumferentially spaced, each support segment (12) defining an opening (40) and supporting a friction laminate member (20) across the opening (40). Each laminate includes a single backing plate (30) which incorporates a pair of friction pads (22) bonded to each of the opposed sides of the single backing plate (30). In a preferred form, the backing plate (30) includes an offset portion (34) which extends into the opening (40) of an associated support segment (12), wherein an interference fit with the opening (40) is established with respect to the offset portion (34) in order to avoid relative movement between the laminate (20) and the support segment (12) under circumferential friction loads.</p> |
