Die Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung von Verbindungen der Formel (I): R¹-(CO)m-S-Aryl-Z¹-(A¹-Z²) n-A²-R², worin R¹, R², Aryl, Z¹, Z², A¹, A², m und n die in Anspruch 1 gegebene Bedeutung besitzen, als Komponenten ferroelektrischer flüssigkristalliner Phasen, sowie Verbindungen der Formel (I) und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung. Abstract Compounds having the formula (I): R¹-(CO)m-S-aryl-Z¹-(A¹-R²)n-A²-R², in which R¹, R², aryl, Z¹, Z², A¹, A², m and n have the meaning defined in claim 1 are used as components of ferroelectric liquid crystalline phases. The invention also concerns compounds having the formula (I) and the process for manufacturing them.
