Prodn. of fibre-reinforced cement composite - by dry mixing fibres and matrix components to avoid fibre breakage followed by addition of water and vibration under pressure

In the prodn. of fibre-reinforced cement composite materials the fibres and dry matrix components are pre-mixed; water is then added, and the material vibrated while maintained under pressure. Pref. the dry mixt. is supplied to a former on which it is pre-compacted before the addn. of water. The dry pre-mixing may take place in a drum within which rotates a horizontal shaft on which are mounted arms inclined to the shaft and having at their outer ends spoon-like members so that a horizontal motion is imparted to the material as it falls. Appts. comprises a vibrating table on which the wetted mixt. is placed and a device for applying pressure during vibration, the frequency of vibration being adjustable.
