PURPOSE:To recognize quickly and exactly whether a loaded medium is correct or erroneous, by reading the volume of a magnetic tape medium by a magnetic tape controller, recognizing the number of volume, and displaying it on a magnetic tape device. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic tape of an interchangeable recording medium is loaded, the volume of its tape is read out by a magnetic tape device MTU, is demodulated by a demodulating part DMO of a magnetic tape controller MTC, and is stored in a volume label storage part VLM without passing through a CPU, etc. A volume number recognition result by a code discriminating circuit CD based on this storage contents is displayed on a display part DSP of the device MTU. In this way, whether the loaded medium is correct or erroneous can be recognized quickly and exactly. |
