PURPOSE:To easily and variously perform recording by one recording apparatus without generating erroneous operation, by detecting the number of the heat generating elements of a mounted thermal head to discriminate the kind thereof and variably setting the control condition of recording operation according to the kind. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal recording apparatus capable of using two or more kinds of thermal heads different in the number of heat generating elements by mounting them in a replaceable manner, the data of various control conditions of recording operation such as heating times (current supply times), heating voltage, the moving speeds of the carriers 5 of the thermal heads or the like corresponding to two or more kinds of the respective thermal heads capable of being mounted on this printer are preliminarily stored in a ROM 9 other than the control program of a CPU 8. Immediately after a power supply is turned ON, the CPU 8 detects the number of the heat generating elements of the thermal head 3 to judge the kind of the mounted thermal head 3 from the data stored in the ROM 9 and the control conditions related to the aforementioned various recording operations corresponding to the judge result are set to a ROM 10. |
