PURPOSE:To prevent the evaporation or qualitative degradation of ink and penetration of moisture or dust into ink and thereby make possible stable printing by shielding either an application body or an ink storage body with a shield when printing is not performed. CONSTITUTION:A uniform layer of ink 7 is allowed to come into contact with a transfer body 1 with a selectively changed wetting property on the surface in accordance with printing information, using an application body 3 and an auxiliary roller 4 in a developing machine 17. Consequently, an ink image 8 is formed in compliance with printing information and printing is performed on paper 10 using a transfer fixing roller 9. Then before completion of printing, the application body 15 is moved, along a direction 13, on the surface of the auxiliary roller 4 so that the application body 15 can be set at a parking position 14. Next, a shielding plate 15 mounted on the developing machine 17 is moved to a tightly closing point 18 on the developing machine 17, while the former is slid in a sliding direction 16, and it is hermetically sealed in the developing machine 17. Consequently, a printer can be maintained in a state where ink evaporation or the penetration of atmospheric moisture or dust into ink scarcely occurs. Therefore, stable printing is always ensured, if the printer is started again. |
