PURPOSE: To improve structural and operational simplicity by providing a reversible mechanical coupling including a series of clamping levers and a series of wedges, and connecting the same to be operated by a single hydraulic system, so that the clamping levers follow a guide track. CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic cylinder 9 is elongated to be inserted in a seat 22 as shown in the drawing. Subsequently, when a fluid is supplied to a platform circuit to retreat the cylinder 9, a sleeve 8 is pulled downward, whereby wedges 3 are energized by a connecting link 7, and the wedges 3 apply thrust to clamping levers 5 through a passage constriction produced by a narrow opening of a tuning fork-like spring 18 working on a pivot 16. The levers 5 are lowered and spread outward, and when they are elongated to the maximum to get on the enlarged portion, they are held in that position by a peg engaged with a guide 15. As the cylinder 9 is moved backward, the pivot 16 expands the opening of the spring 18 to keep on sliding into a vertical slot 17, thereby lowering the wedges 3 to the working position. |
