PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal element having stable storage characteristic at multiplex driving stage and having also sufficiently good contrast by using ferroelectric liquid crystal wherein at least one compositional element of the ferroelectric liquid crystal is a recemic body. CONSTITUTION:The title liquid crystal element is constituted of a pair of substrates 1 provided with an electrode wherein ferroelectric liquid crystals 5 are inserted between the substrates 1, and at least one of the compositional elements of said ferroelectric liquid crystal is a racemic body. For example, SiO2 is vapor-deposited as insulation film on the surface of the substrate having an ITO (indium tin oxide) layer sputtered thereon as transparent electrode, and a polyimide soln. is coated thereon with a spinner, and then rubbed after calcining at 250 deg.C for 30min. Obtd. substrate is assembled to ca. 2mum cell thickness using spacers, and the above-described soln. is injected thereinto. Thus, a liquid crystal element having table storage characteristic at multiplex driving stage and having also sufficiently good contrast is obtd. |
