Levelling of submerged ground is carried out by a levelling machine, e.g. a submergible bulldozer 1, 9, that is powered from an anchorable ship 1 into which the machine can be raised for transport between work sites and is remotely controlled from a control panel 20 operated by a driver A located at a distance from the machine that allows of visual observation of the machine, the driver being supplied with air through a hose 21 connecting him to a source of air on the ship. The control panel transmits electrical command signals to actuators on the machine through electric cable that couples the panel to the actuators by way of the ship. For transport between work sites the machine is held in an open bottom compartment or well 17 in the ship by U-shaped members 27, 27' that are, on actuation of associated rams 28, 28' slidable through the side walls of the compartment to engage beneath the machine. Lowering or raising of the machine from or into the compartment is controlled by a winch 12 on the ship, which can be anchored by vertically movable spuds 7, 7' and anchors 10, 10'. |
