摘要 Polymers containing a major proportion of polymerized acrylonitrile are made by subjecting acrylonitrile, by itself or with a copolymerizable olefinic compound, to polymerization in an aqueous medium at pH values below 7, the polymerization being initiated by a free radical or redox system and being effected in the presence of at least one polymer which contains one or more CH-acid or NH-acid groups, which polymer is dissolved or finely dispersed in the aqueous medium. Polymers specified containing CH-acid and NH-acid groups are those derived from p-methacroylaminophenylsulphonyl - methylsulphonyl - cyano-methane, p-vinylphenylsulphonyl-methylsulphonyl-cyano-methane, m-methacroylaminophenyl-sulphonyl-dicyano-methane, p-methacroylaminophenylsulphonyl - dimethyl - sulphonyl-methane, p-methacroylaminophenylsulphonyl-methylsulphonyl-methyl acetate, p-methacroylaminophenylsulphonyl - methylsulphonylmethane-methyl sulphonate, dimethylsulphonylvinylsulphonyl-methane, phenylsulphonyl-p-methacroylaminophenylsulphonyl - cyano - methane, vinylphenyldisulphonimide, vinylbenzene-benzinedisulphonimide and vinylbenzene-methyldisulphonimide; such polymers being either homopolymers or copolymers with monomers such as styrene, divinyl benzene, acrylic acid, acrylic and methacrylic esters and nitriles, vinyl esters and vinyl and vinylidene chlorides. The final polymeric products are soluble in dimethyl formamide and may be used in the production of films and filaments which possess the properties of thermostability and dyeability. The Specification describes also the copolymerization of 3-methacroylamino-benzene sulphonic acid-(N-2-naphthylsulphonyl)-amide with acrylonitrile in an aqueous medium having a pH of 2,5 and containing a mixture of sodium pyrosulphite and potassium persulphate. At the end of polymerization the pH of the resulting latex is raised to 9,5. Specifications 807,241 867,006 and 933,483 are referred to.ALSO:3-Methacroylamino-benzene sulphonic acid-(N-2-naphthylsulphonyl)-amide is prepared by reacting naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid amide with 3-nitrobenzene sulphonic acid, hydrogenating the product in aqueous suspension with a Raney nickel catalyst and acylating the resulting 3-amino-benzene sulphonic acid-N-(2-naphthylsulphonyl)-amide with methacrylic acid chloride.
