PURPOSE:To enable quick setting of a printing range corresponding to a paper width by providing an indicator lamp which detects and indicates the presence of printing paper by using a sensor when a printing head moves to the left and right ends of the printing range. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 1 is equipped with a sensor 2 for detecting a paper end, and if a command for setting a left margin width is transmitted to a printer from a host device after loading paper on the platen 1 of the printer, the printing head 1 moves to a specified position while performing a spacing action. Then the sensor 2 detects the presence of printing paper where the printing head stops. After this, if the printing paper is not present, a PE lamp on an operating panel 3 is caused to flash and thereby warns an erroneous setting value of left margin width. Also when the right margin width is set, the printing head is likewise moved to the right and detects the presence of printing paper using the sensor 2. Consequently, the printing width corresponding to the paper width can be quickly set. |
